About
Hi my name is Claire Ellway. I’m a self-taught artist and crafter based in Brisbane, Australia. I live with my partner in the leafy suburbs of Brisbane and sew, paint and construct my creations in my spare time away from my 9 to 5 job.
I’m fascinated with anything to do with pattern, textiles and geometric forms. My influences come from a broad rage of areas including Art Deco, the Arts and Craft movement, traditional Japanese design, street art, patchwork, quilting, cities and the layout of urban settlements, and the Australian bush.
I’ve always had a creative project of some sort on the go from early childhood, and today, in my mid 20’s, I get a bit stir crazy if I go more than a couple of days without sewing or creating something.
I work along the boundaries of art and craft. I’m currently exploring painting, quilting, making jewellery, printing and dying fabric, and embroidery.
